Missing in the miami collapse
Paraguay’s Foreign Minister, Euclides Acevedo, informed local media on Thursday night that the bodies of three Paraguayans, discovered after the building collapse in Miami, Florida, were the remains of the mandatary’s family.
“We are still working on auditing the list to get as accurate an account as possible for the missing,” the mayor said. Local officials have worked to cross-reference names with U.S. Postal Service and driver’s license information, Mayor Cava said.
Paraguayan Foreign Minister Euclides Acevedo told local media Thursday night that the bodies of three of the Paraguayans missing after the building collapse in Miami, Florida, belonging to the presidential family, were found.
The team will also “recommend whether legislative or regulatory changes should be enacted to minimize the likelihood of a similar tragedy,” said Bob Swain, chair of the Florida Bar’s Trusts, Estates and Real Property Law Section, in a statement.

The 2018 report, prepared for the condo association, had previously estimated that the repairs needed to the Surfside, Florida building would cost about $9.1 million. It is unclear whether the problems identified by Frank Morabito, the structural engineer who prepared the report, contributed to the disaster.advertisement

The President of the United States, Joe Biden, spoke by telephone with Mayor Levine Cava and expressed the government’s willingness to provide “immediate” assistance through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), whose workers are already on the ground in Surfside inspecting the site of the tragedy. The aid, Biden reminded, can only arrive if Governor DeSantis makes an emergency declaration.
A family reunification center has been set up at the Surfside Community Center, where the Red Cross is providing help and psychological care to displaced survivors, who are also being assisted in finding temporary housing. The center was also attended by people anxiously awaiting news of their relatives, including Sergio Barth, a Miami resident who explained to ‘The New York Times’ that he had not heard from his brother, who had arrived from Colombia with his wife and daughter and was staying at a friend’s apartment in the building.
